Siblings Slash Grubhub Driver With Box Cutter In Chicken Wing Heist: COPS

OAK LAWN, IL -- A brother and sister were arrested after they robbed a food delivery driver with a box cutter in an Oak Lawn trailer park, police said. Brittany Steele, 21, and her 19-year-old brother, Willie Steele, both appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on felony charges of armed robbery. The driver received a laceration on the arm.

According to the criminal complaint, Oak Lawn police responded to an armed robbery on Sept. 18 at the Airway Mobile Home Park, 9001 S. Cicero Ave. A delivery driver for GrubHub was dropping off Bubba’s wings to a caller at the trailer park. When she arrived, she was approached by a female, later identified as Brittany Steele, who told the delivery driver that she needed to go fetch some money for the food, police said.

As the delivery driver waited for Brittany to get the money, she was approached by a male, later identified as Willie Steele, who was holding what appeared to be a box cutter, police said. Willie allegedly demanded that the driver to turn over her food and belongings. Police said the two struggle and the food delivery driver was slashed on the arm by the box cutter.

The food delivery driver was able to escape and called 911. Oak Lawn officers arrived and searched the area. Officers were able to locate two people matching the descriptions of the alleged offenders in the area. The delivery driver was able to positively identify the siblings, police said.

Brittany Steele is a resident of Airway, although court records show her as having a Chicago address. She was given a $30,000 I-bond and electronic monitoring. Her brother Willie’s bail was set at $150,000 because he was the one armed with the box cutter, Judge Felice said. The siblings are due back in court Oct. 2 in Bridgeview.
