'Sidewalk Squares of Hope' Cheer Up Neighbors During Quarantine

St. Linus students' impromptu sidewalk art walk cheers up neighbors during coronavirus quarantine.

OAK LAWN, IL — Some St. Linus students took to their sidewalks and driveways to create chalk art to cheer up their neighbors under quarantine. Neighbors on the 10600 block of Lawler Avenue decorated their windows and sidewalks with drawing and sayings thanking health care workers and other first responders during the coronavirus emergency.

“It’s for people in the neighborhood walking their dogs, or going for a walk or run,” said Cheryl Tabek, who helped plan Wednesday’s art walk. “Something to spread some cheer. A lady walking her dog told me it made her day.”

The sidewalk chalk art will be up until it rains, then the kids will be outside again drawing new pictures.
