Space Heater Possible Cause of Fire That Killed Man: Fire Marshal

An Oak Lawn police officer pulled the man out of his house, but he died from his injuries a few days later on Nov. 14, police said.

OAK LAWN, IL — A 54-year-old man died from injuries he suffered from a fire on last Saturday

An Oak Lawn police officer, Ben Tholotowsky, arrived at a structure fire in the 9300 block of South 69th Court. Tholotowsky pulled the man out of the house.

Police said the man was severely injured and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. The man died from his injuries on Tuesday.

He was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s as Ghusein Ghusein.

The fire marshal deemed nothing suspicious with the fire, which was possibly caused by a space heater or cord.
