Special Cleanup Crews Start Friday for Water-Damaged Items
Allied Waste Services asks residents to place water-damaged carpeting, furniture and other large items curbside for special pickup this week and next.

Allied Waste—the village’s waste hauler—said that crews will be picking up water damaged items starting Friday and after regular service next week, or until the last soggy sofa is put curbside.
Before you haul that carpet curbside or other water-damaged items, however, Allied and the village advise residents to contact their insurance companies and photograph damaged property.

“Call your insurance company first,” Hank Potts, municipal account manager for Allied Waste, said. “They may want to send out an adjustor. Just put the damaged bulk items in your garage until the adjustor comes. If you don’t get picked up this week, we’ll get it next week.”
Starting today (Friday), residents can bring their water-damaged carpet, furniture and other large, household goods to the curb, even if Friday is not their regular pickup day.

After regular pickup service is completed, Allied will have extra crews on hand to collect bulk items on Friday. Potts said he doesn’t expect a lot of soggy sofas and carpets today, but thinks the big cleanup will happen over the weekend, when many residents are off from work.
Here’s what to do starting on Monday, April 22:
- Starting on Monday, residents should bring waterlogged items to the curb on their regular pick-up day.
- After regular service is completed, Allied crews will double back and collect the bulk items until the last soggy sofa is cleaned up.
- Residents throwing away water-damaged carpet, furniture and other large items can notify Allied via email at Toter.Service@republicservices.com to come pick them up.
“We’ll hit it every day until everything is cleaned up,” Potts said.
