Special Ed Youth, Seniors with Dementia Putt for Friendship

While golfers were teeing up for the U.S. Open, one 88-year-old woman with dementia shared her love of the game with a group of special education students on the putting green at an Oak Lawn memory care community.

Ruth Lang, a resident at Grace Point Place, an Anthem Memory Care community, and six high schoolers showed off her strokes on the putting green at the community located at 5701 W. 101st St., Oak Lawn. Lang and her fellow residents shared their passion for golf with the youth from A.E.R.O.. Special Education Cooperative. The golf-themed celebration featured instruction, tips and trophies.

“Many of our seniors are lifelong golfers and fans,” said Shannon Dahlman, community relations director for Grace Point Place. “Our residents reminisced and shared their love of the game with a new generation of golfers and made new friends.”
