St. Germaine School Opens its INNOVATION LAB

What do you do with a computer room when all of the students already have Chromebooks of their own?

At St. Germaine School in Oak Lawn, Illinois, we decided to convert the space into an INNOVATION LAB! We moved out the old furniture and repainted (including a large section of wall that can be used as a green screen for student video productions!)

The Lab provides teachers with the space to “spread out” that they sometimes lack in their classrooms. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities can be completed on the large tabletops. Student in all grades (PreK to 8) have opportunities to work and create in the Lab.
The LAB now houses a state-of-the-art interactive white board which is capable of adding new dimensions to student learning. The board allows a whole classroom to view an internet sites. Student and teachers can take notes directly on resource materials during discussions. It also includes a bank of professional quality microscopes for our older students.
We plan to continue to add features to the Lab as we move forward. A large science demonstration table and STEAM activity kits will be added in the near future.
