St. Laurence Celebrates Partnership with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

St. Laurence recently finished a successful Viking Quest Week, where students and faculty celebrated curriculum changes in the school.  This is the first year St. Laurence has implemented their StL STEM learning approach, which emphasizes Spirituality, Leadership, Science, Technology, English, and Math in a collaborative environment that encourages team work and problem solving.  To highlight this learning approach, teams of students competed in a problem solving challenge, culminating in a team competition.

The winning team from the competition won a fieldtrip downtown to visit the Chicago Harbor Lock and go on the Chicago architectural boat tour.  St. Laurence recently signed a partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which gave students the opportunity to visit the Chicago Harbor Lock.  Mr. Robert Ojala, the Acting Lockmaster and Navigation Structures Manager, gave them a tour and taught them about the facility.  After touring the Lock, they went on the Chicago architectural tour to learn more about the history of the city.  This partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is one of several partnerships that St. Laurence offers, which are unique to the school and provide applied learning opportunities for students.
