St. Laurence High School Breaks Ground On 34,000-Square-Foot Field House

BURBANK, IL—St. Laurence High School, 5556 W. 77th St., Burbank, broke ground Sept. 14 for a new 34,000-square-foot field house to support students and programs.

The new facility will feature three indoor courts, an indoor track, locker rooms, training rooms, offices and additional spaces supporting St. Laurence students and programs. Construction is expected to be completed in August 2027.

According to Southwestern Surfaces and Equipment, a Florida-based supplier of athletic flooring, equipment and gymnasium flooring, awareness of the importance of physical and mental well-being grows, high school gymnasiums are evolving to promote holistic wellness. Beyond traditional sports, there’s a greater emphasis on fitness training, yoga, dance, and other recreational activities that cater to diverse interests and abilities.

The project represents the latest milestone in St. Laurence’s remarkable growth. Enrollment has increased from 456 students in 2015–16 to nearly 1,250 today—approximately 175 percent growth in 11 years.
