St. Laurence Offers Scholarship To First Responder, Military Families
Class of 2027, freshmen from first responder and military families will receive a $1,000 scholarship to St. Laurence High School.

BURBANK, IL – In recognition and appreciation for the strong community of first responder and military families that have supported St. Laurence High School over the years, starting with the class of 2027, sons and daughters of active police officers, firefighters, nurses, paramedics or military members will receive a $1,000 award for their freshman year.
“Since our founding, St. Laurence has served a strong community of first responder families across Chicago’s Southland area,” St. Laurence President Joseph Martinez ‘99 said. “There are countless members of the Viking family who have answered the call to serve others – whether they are parents, alums, loved ones of our faculty, or even staff members who served in the past. This level of commitment to service is brought to our students on a daily basis and is at the forefront of every decision we make for our families. In appreciation of them, we are honored to offer this new scholarship.”
At nearly $3,000 more affordable than the average area Catholic high school, St. Laurence has prioritized accessibility to an excellent education for years. The new scholarship joins a long list of awards, discounts and financial aid opportunities available to St. Laurence families.

St. Laurence claims to offer its families a wide range of resources that make it the Southland’s most valuable Catholic education, including the area’s only International Baccalaureate program among Catholic high schools, Career Pathway Programs that provide students exposure to in-demand industries. The high school also provides a suite of student services and resources that prepare students for college and careers while also catering to their physical and social emotional wellbeing.
In addition, St. Laurence has also completed several major renovation projects in recent years, including modernized hallways and classrooms, a new Learning Resource Center and athletic facility improvements to the gym, turf stadium, track, baseball field and more. Renovation efforts will continue in the near future, with plans in motion for overhauls of the school’s main foyer and cafeteria, among other spaces.
