Stanley Cup Coming to South Suburbs

See where you can spot the Cup on Thursday, August 13.

The Stanley Cup will make several appearances during a tour of the south suburbs on Thursday, August 13.

First stop, Marist High School at 4200 W. 115th St., from 10 to 11:45 a.m. The Cup will arrive in the hands of Mike Gapski, head athletic trainer for the Chicago Blackhawks and current Marist parent.

Blackhawks fans and residents can take a photo with the trophy for a $10 entry fee (group or individual), which includes a photo from Quality Plus Photography, along with the opportunity to order additional prints and custom gifts. All proceeds from the event will support Marist High School’s hockey team, which starts its season on September 27 at the Morgan Park Sports Center, 115th Street and Western Avenue. The viewing will be held in the school’s main gym. Fans will line up at the east end of the campus. Parking is free, but extremely limited. St. Terrence Parish, 4300 West 119th Place, will also allow visitors to park during the viewing. Visitors should be aware of parking restrictions throughout Alsip. No one is allowed on the premises and the parking lots will be closed until 7 a.m.

Next the Cup will travel to Standard Bank Stadium, 14011 Kenton Ave, from noon to 2 p.m. Entrance is $10 per person and those tickets will be sold—cash only—on the day of the event only. Checks and credit card cannot be used. Children seven years of age and younger are free. This viewing also includes professional photos by Quality Plus. Those people who do not see the cup will not be charged. All proceeds of ticket sales will go to Special Olympics.

Finally, the Cup will head to 115 Bourbon Street, 3359 West 115th St., from 9 to 11:30 p.m. A $20 donation (cash only) to the Blackhawks Charities will buy fans a wristband, which serves as a ticket to view the Cup and have a photo taken. (Kids ages 12 and under are only $10, anyone 5 and under are free). Wristbands will go on sale beginning at 4 p.m. Only a limited number of wristbands will be sold. Professional photographer Blink of an Eye Photography will capture the moments. Photographs will be printed and available for purchase that night. Photos will also be available for download on the venue’s website beginning Monday, August 17.Patrons, take note: Bourbon Street will not be taking reservations Thursday. Tables will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
