Stolen Mercedes Benz Found In Miami Motel Lot, Couple Charged
Car had been reported stolen in fake carjacking in Chicago, police said.

OAK LAWN, IL -- Oak Lawn police found a Mercedes Benz in a motel parking lot that had originally been stolen in a carjacking, police reports said. Conchetta Davis, 28, of Blue Island and Jarius Fair , 29, of Chicago, were both charged with criminal trespassing to a motor vehicle. Davis was also charged with driving on a suspended license.
Police were driving through the parking lot of the Miami Motel at 90th Street and Cicero Avenue around 9:30 a.m. Jan. 13, when he ran the plates of a white Mercedes Benz, reports said. The officer discovered that the car had been reported stolen in a carjacking a few days before in Chicago’s Washington Heights neighborhood. The occupants of the car were also said to be armed and dangerous.
The officer verified the car with 22nd District police, whose owner reported that he was working in his backyard when he was approached by two men. One of them pointed a gun at him and demanded the keys to the Mercedes. The man handed the keys over to the men, who handed them over to a woman. Reports also said the carjackers also took the man’s gold chain.

A man later identified as Fair was seen walking back to his room at the Miami. A few minutes later Davis came out and got behind the wheel, while Fair sat in the passenger seat, reports said. The officer blocked the exit to the parking lot, when Davis reportedly made a U-turn back into the parking lot. Police stopped the car and ordered them both out.
According to the report, Davis had an outstanding warrant in Evergreen Park for driving on a suspended license. Fair also had a suspended license. Police ordered them out of the car with their guns drawn. They were both taken into custody and brought to the Oak Lawn police station. Davis allegedly told police she didn’t know what was going on and that the car belonged to her brother. She later recanted her statements.

Davis told detectives that a friend who lived near 99th Street and Emerald in the city let her borrow the car on Jan. 10. She told police she only knew him as “J-Rock.” She said the car was a loaner from Mercedes Benz of Orland Park and that her friend gave her the keys so she could go shopping. The friend never told her when to bring it back, police said.
She told detectives her friend did not get carjacked, reports said. After driving to West Side to visit friends, the man began texting her to bring the car back but she ignored him. He continued to text her, saying he had reported the car stolen and she better bring it back before she gets locked up. Davis unlocked her phone and detectives showed them 60 texts from the man, corroborating her story.
Davis repeated her story for Chicago police, allegedly admitting to knowing the car belonged to Mercedes Benz of Orland Park. Police also determined that carjacking story was fake and were pursuing charges against the Washington Heights man for filing a false police report, reports said.
Fair allegedly told Davis a few weeks back while walking down the street in his neighborhood, reports said. Davis picked him up around around 1 a.m. and they went to the Miami. He allegedly told police he didn’t know the car had been reported stolen, but knew it was a loaner from the Orland Park car dealer.
Davis and Fair were both charged with criminal trespassing to a motor vehicle. Their next court appearance is Feb. 27 in Bridgeview.
