Student Stabbed In Fight After OLCHS, Reavis Basketball Game

Police investigating fight that broke out after a basketball game at Oak Lawn Community High School where a student was stabbed.

OAK LAWN, IL — A student was stabbed Friday evening when a large fight broke out after a basketball game at Oak Lawn Community High School, police said.

Around 8:50 p.m., Oak Lawn police responded to a report of a large fight involving 15 people in the high school parking lot. A male student from OLCHS suffered three stab wounds. Officers gave the student first aid, who was then taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. The stab wounds are said to be superficial and non-life threatening.

Dist. 229 Supt. Michael Riordan said the Spartans were playing their Burbank rival Reavis High School on the Oak Lawn campus. Adult supervisors and Oak Lawn police officers providing security for the game were escorting students out of the building when a fight broke out in the parking lot. Riordan said the boy may have tried to break up the fight and didn’t realize he had been stabbed in his back until he walked away.

“It was a very spirited game as it always is with Reavis,” Riordan said. “Oak Lawn officers already at the game were immediately at the scene.”

Riordan did not know if the fight was among Reavis or Oak Lawn students, or between students from both schools. Riordan had attended Friday’s game and waited until the gym cleared out before heading home. He received a phone call on his way home that there was an incident at the school.
