Forest View, Forest Park and Romeoville are accepting applications for public safety positions.

Forest View: Part-Time Police Officer

Forest View, IL, is looking for a part-time police officer to work with a force of eight sworn officers that serve a community of 700 located 12 miles from the Chicago city limits.

Candidates can apply online or pick up an application at Forest View Village Hall, 7000 W. 46th St., Forest View, IL, 60402. The deadline for application is Sept. 30, 2015.

The starting salary is $20.90 per hour and retired officers will be considered. Candidates must be available for all shifts, especially midnight shifts.

Village of Forest Park: Firefighter/Paramedic

The Village of Forest Park will be holding a written exam for appointments to the position of firefighter/paramedic with the Forest Park Fire Department on September 12, 2015.

Candidates must be between the ages of 21 and 34 at the time of the written examination, be a U.S. citizen, and have no felony convictions.

Other requirements include a high school diploma or GED equivalent and possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Candidates need to bring proof of birth date and a valid CPAT card with ladder climb to the written exam. The CPAT card must be issued within 12 months of the date of the exam (Sept. 12, 2015), and be valid at the time of hire.

The firefighter/paramedic position requires a valid paramedic license from the Illinois Department of Public Health (at time of hire).

Those taking the test must score 70 percent or better, and successfully pass a background investigation, medical exam, drug testing, polygraph and psychological exam. There is a $45 non-refundable application processing fee.

Other considerations and requirements for hiring include:

  • Preference points will be awarded to candidates with a minimum of one year of active duty in the U.S. military service. Presentation of Military Form DD-214 (indicating status of discharge) must be submitted with application to qualify.
  • An associate’s degree in the field of fire service or emergency medical services from an accredited community or junior college; or a bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited college or university. A copy of the diploma or unofficial transcripts must be submitted with application to qualify.

The starting salary ranges from $51,161 to $81,847 for the firefighter/paramedic position. Forest Park has a population of 15,000 with 23 sworn officers. The application deadline is August 28, 2015. Apply online here.

Village of Romeoville: Part-Time Public Safety Dispatcher

The Village of Romeoville is hiring a part-time public safety dispatcher serving a community of 40,000. Applications will be accepted up to August 31, 2015.

The position pays $21.41 per hour. Applicants must be 18, be a high school graduate or equivalent, have accurate typing skills, as well as previous experience with multi-line phone systems and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Other requirements include:

  • Excellent oral/written communication skills
  • LEADS Certification (preferred)
  • Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Certification (preferred)
  • Previous dispatch experience (preferred)

In addition, candidates must successfully complete a standardized test and oral interview, and pass a background investigation, polygraph exam, drug screen and hearing test.

Work shifts are 8 hours, with a minimum of 16 hours per week. Hours may vary to effectively meet operational needs. Candidates are required to work a 40-hour work week during training to include rotating shifts and weekends. Applications can be downloaded from the village website.
