OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn police wrote 92 fewer seat belt violations during the Thanksgiving campaign to crack down on seat belt scofflaws and impaired drivers, compared to Memorial Day, when 282 seat belt citations were issued.

From Nov. 18 to Nov. 28, the Oak Lawn Police Department participated in the “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” mobilization with other state and local enforcement agencies across Illinois to reduce highway fatalities.

During the campaign, Oak Lawn police issued 290 citations, including:

  • 190 seat belt citations
  • 24 child car seat citations
  • 1 fugitive was apprehended
  • 6 suspended/revoked licenses
  • 11 speeding citations
  • 2 other misdemeanor arrests
  • 53 other traffic violations
  • 1 seized vehicle
  • 2 drug charges

“Our officers patrol year-round to keep motorists buckled up and impaired drivers off the roads,” said Sgt. Acke. “We do this to save lives and ensure all of us make it home safely at the end of the day.”

The Thanksgiving enforcement effort is made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation and is part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns.
