Traffic Stop Turns Up Tramadol Hidden In Stool Softener Bottle
Defective muffler and suspended plates led to arrest when drugs were found, prosecutor said.

OAK LAWN, IL -- Oak Lawn police found opioid analgesics during a traffic stop, prosecutors said. Ryon Kalwa, 41, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance. Kalwa also has outstanding arrest warrants out of Lake and DuPage counties.
Around 2:54 p.m. Dec. 4, officers stopped a car at 51st Avenue and Southwest Highway for having a defective muffler. The vehicle also apparently had suspended plates. Oak Lawn officers found Excedrin aspirin and 21 pills, later identified as Tramadol, inside a generic bottle of stool softener.
The assistant public defender told the judge that Kalwa claims the Tramadol was prescribed to him, but it was not in the prescription bottle. Kalwa added that his doctor gave him the prescription because he only has two ligaments in his ankle.

“Come next week with the prescription,” Felice said. “I’d like to see it.”
The judge released Kalwa on a $30,000 I-bond. Kalwa is due back in court Dec. 20 in Bridgeview.
