The girl’s family watched as the tree was planted Sunday at Memorial Park, 107th Street and Major Avenue, Oak Lawn. Memorial Park is often referred to as “Rocket Park” by local youngsters for its rocket-themed playground equipment.

“For this to be here for when we come to this park with our other child to remember Emily and see this tree and watch it grow is amazing,” Emily’s father, Ed Beazley, told CBS 2.

Emily captured the hearts of the city and the world with her positive outlook in her courageous, four-year struggle non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Before she passed away, she had a street named in her honor, got to throw out the first pitch at a White Sox game, and was made an honorary Chicago police officer.

She also received a phone call from her idol, singer Taylor Swift.
