Ukraine Must Win!

This is in response to Bill Lipinski's column in the August 4th issue of Des Plaines Valley News. Bill Lipinski talks about the things America did right and wrong to safeguard democracy. Yes, there are some things that we did right, such as world war II, Kuwait and elsewhere, as well as areas where either we had no business there or we can completely messed up, such as with Iraq, Afghanistan, and Vietnam. Mr. Lipinski, one of Illinois's few decent Democratic politicians, seems to believe that Ukraine cannot win the war against Russia, even with our help.

I have two pen pals in Ukraine, and while they've had some stressful and painful times, are very optimistic that they can win. After all, they were able to push the Russians out of certain areas, such as the territory near the capitol, that people were convinced the Russian soldiers would overrun. Russians have also made very small gains in the east. This shows that they can win, especially as we see how this war is costing the Russians a fortune, as well as many lives, and infamy that will affect the Russian people up to the fourth generation. Soldiers, politicians, and even oligarchs have turned against Mad Vlad (Vladimir Putin) who is only provoking this war so that he could have one more bout of glory before he goes to his eternal punishment. However, it is imperative that Ukraine wins this war, no matter how much it costs.

First, let's look at the war crimes and the crimes against humanity that have taken place in Bucha, Irpin, and Mariupol. The elderly with their hands tied behind their heads and shot. The families sent to infiltration centers throughout Russia. The girls and young women raped by drunken soldiers. The civilians who are forcibly russified. Hospitals and residences bombed. Every single law of war according to the Geneva Conventions has been broken unabashedly by Putin and his regime. He even admitted that the Donbass was not his overall goal, but to annex all of Ukraine into Russia. He and that false idol of a patriarch Kirill have both said that Ukraine is Russian land. They forgot that Ukraine, originally Kievan Rus, was a unified nation when the Russians, originally the Duchy of Muscovy, were still wandering through the wilderness.

Putin eventually admitted that he would not have stopped at Ukraine either, but he would also attack Moldova. Those who are paying attention would be completely dumb to not understand that he would eventually attack Poland even though it is a NATO Nation. If the Russians are allowed to win, the rest of Europe, including many of our allies, would be under mortal danger. Ukrainian culture would then be suppressed for the third time in their history. Or have you forgotten that Ukraine was captured by the Russian Empire and then recaptured under the Soviet Union? Have you also forgotten how several million Ukrainians were starved to death by the Russians in the 1930s because the Russians took all of their grain and food out of the country, not letting them have any to survive?

Also, if the Russians win, they will again escape justice from the many war crimes committed against countless peoples since before the second world war, including the Poles, Tatars, native Siberians, Georgians, Chechens, Volga Germans, German women, and others. Mr. Lipinski, do you want any of this to happen again? Do the rest of you? This region has a high concentration of Polish people. That means that everyone has at least one ancestor who has suffered when the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany tore their country apart. While Germany has long learned their lesson, Russia has not been in any position to be disciplined. That needs to end now. For the sake of all humanity, this country and all of the Allies in Europe had better do all that we can to push those Russians out of Ukraine and keep them out. Otherwise, we will have abandoned 44 million men, women and children who were no threat to anyone but Putin's ego.
