Video: 'There's A Helicopter Hovering Over OLCHS'

Usually when helicopters are spotted over the Oak Lawn area the neighborhood Facebook groups light up wondering if the helicopters are hovering above some major crime scene.

Driving down 95th Street on Thursday afternoon we caught a helicopter circling over Southwest Highway, the same thought cross our mind. As we got closer, however, we saw the helicopter lifting an industrial air conditioning unit on to the roof of Oak Lawn Community High School.

A quick phone call to Dist. 229 Superintendent and OLCHS Principal Michael Riordan cleared up the mystery. Dr. Riordan said that high school’s culinary lab was getting a new air conditioning unit.

After the helicopter left, we saw about 30 students walking back to the school.

“It’s not something you see everyday,” Dr. Riordan told Patch.
