Village of Oak Lawn Cancels Fall On The Green For 2020
For the first time in 25 years, Fall On The Green has been canceled amid pandemic.

OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn’s Fall On The Green has been canceled due to the ongoing pandemic. Originally scheduled to have taken place Sept. 10 to Sept. 12, the Arts and Events Commission decided there was no path to safely stage the community event.
“It’s not the end of Fall on the Green,” Mayor Sandra Bury said. “It will be bigger and better next year.”
The commission had considered subtracting certain elements from the fall festival, such as the food and beer tent, craft show and children’s activities.

“Not much would have been left,” Bury said. “We wanted it to be the way people have come to love.”
The village hopes to bring something back to the community in the fall. Bury called the decision heartbreaking.

“We just did not see any path to do it,” Bury said. “It’s not the year for it. It’s disappointing but the right decision.”
This is the first time in 25 years there hasn’t been a Fall On The Green, which showcases villages restaurants and featured live music, children and teen activities, crafts and in recent years, a teen battle of the bands. A portion of the festival’s proceeds benefited Oak Lawn non-profit organizations.
The mayor said Fall On The Green would be back bigger and better in 2021.
“If we stay the course a few months longer wearing face coverings and social distancing we’ll see the other side of this,” Bury said.
