Water Meter Replacement May Raise Lead Levels in Drinking Water

What the Village Isn't Telling You

I want to pass this information along to my fellow Oak Lawn residents who may have missed it (because the Village didn't send it to you). I had to file a FOIA request to get all the information. This is about the 'mandatory' water meter change. These documents are on the Villlage website here: http://oaklawn-il.gov/home/showdocument?id=18436. The Village didn't think it was important enough or that you are smart enough to understand them. Go here and read carefully! Its about the lead levels in your drinking water going up. The Village isn't going to tell you about this before they change your meter. If your home was built before 1964, you should be extra careful if you have children. Get a lead testing kit before the meter change. The Village will not provide one. The installer is supposed to be able to tell you if you have lead or copper or galvanized steel. Don't believe them! Check this out for yourself. If you don't know how, get an independent plumber to tell you. The solution listed by the Village: consider another water supply for drinking or cooking!! If you have questions or a commment on this post, contact your Village Trustee.
