Wisconsin Authorities End Active Search for Missing Oak Lawn Man

ADAMS COUNTY, WI -- Wisconsin authorities have ended their active search for an Oak Lawn man who has been missing since June 23. After days of searching, 59-year-old William Sheeran has not been found. Sheeran was visiting his sister’s vacation home in Arkdale, Wisconsin, when he went missing.

Sheeran was last seen at about 7 p.m. Friday, June 23 near the boat landing and walking toward the observation deck at Petenwell Lake. A close family friend said Sheeran suffers from early onset memory loss and may have gotten lost or confused when out walking.

“The Adams County Sheriff’s Office has been conducting extensive searches of this area by land, air, and water in an attempt to locate Sheeran,” Sheriff Sam Wollin said in a written statement. “We believe others visiting this recreational area last Friday evening may have seen Sheeran. It is possible that Sheeran asked for and received a ride from the area. He is believed to be carrying a wallet, but no cell phone.”

Adams County Sheriff’s Police said Sheeran was last seen wearing tan shorts, a black Chicago White Sox t-shirt, a Chicago White Sox hat, gym shoes and sunglasses. He is further described as white, standing 5-feet-10-inches tall, weighing around 250 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. Family members said he often repeats himself when he talks.

Sheeran and his siblings grew up in Mount Greenwood. Until recently, William lived in Oak Lawn and had recently sold his house. His family believes that he may be trying to get back to the area. His driver’s license still has his Oak Lawn address. His family will stay for an undetermined time in Wisconsin to continue searching for William.
