Tinley Park woman out on bond for passing fake money at an Orland Park Denny's arrested in Oak Lawn with counterfeit twenties, police said.

OAK LAWN, IL -- A Tinley Park woman out on bond for allegedly trying to pass a counterfeit twenty-dollar bill in Orland Park was arrested Dec. 11 for pulling a similar stunt in Oak Lawn, prosecutors said. Mariah Tidd, 22, appeared before Cook County Judge Peter Felice on a felony charge of forgery. She was also charged with misdemeanor obstruction of identity.

Tidd appeared Thursday in court wearing a surgical mask and had to be told several times to keep the mask on. According to the charges, Tidd went to Marathon gas station at 6800 W. 95th St. around 10:15 p.m. Dec. 11. Employees called police when Tidd tried to purchase some items using a fake twenty-dollar bill, the prosecutor said.

Oak Lawn police arrived while Tidd was still in gas station allegedly purchasing items with the counterfeit money. Officers tested the twenty using a counterfeit detection pen and the bill turned out to be suspect. Tidd reportedly had eight more counterfeit twenties in her purse, all of which had the same serial number, the prosecutor said. Tidd allegedly told police she had purchased the fake money earlier in the day. The U.S. Secret Service confirmed the money was counterfeit.
