Yellow Dodge Challenger Driver In Twerking Melee Surrenders: Cops

OAK LAWN, IL — The driver of a yellow Dodge challenger has turned himself into police after the car was captured on video roaring out of a municipal parking garage during a twerking melee on the top level, Oak Lawn police said.

Jeremiah Williams, 20, of Chicago, is charged with fleeing and eluding, aggravated speeding and having no valid driver’s license. He turned himself into the Oak Lawn Police Department, July 17.

Around 9 p.m. July 8, officers were dispatched to the Metra Station Park Tower, 5160 Museum Drive, after receiving a complaint about a reckless driver inside the commuter parking garage. As officers ascended the parking levels, they found approximately 25 vehicles and 60 people on the top floor. Police said most of the crowd were in their late teens and early 20s.

Some in the crowd began twerking and fighting the officers when they tried to disband the gathering, police said. People in the crowd began fleeing in their vehicles at high rates of speed, nearly striking and officers and other vehicles. Other agencies had to be called into assist Oak Lawn police in securing the parking tower. An Oak Lawn officer also suffered minor injuries during the incident. There were three arrests.

Oak Lawn police also released a police dashcam video of a yellow Dodge Challenger that appeared to be fleeing east through the alley from 5160 Museum Drive behind the businesses on 95th Street, which was clocked at speeds of 100 mph, police said.

Williams turned himself on July 17 and police said he has been cooperating with the investigation. He said he fled because he didn’t want to get into trouble, according to police. Williams posted bond and has an Aug. 5 hearing at the Bridgeview Courthouse.

Oak Lawn police also identified a female juvenile who was wanted on charges of aggravated battery to a police officer. Those charges are pending.
