11th Annual Recycle with Ronald Saturday, September 26th at United Scrap Metal

11th Annual Recycle with Ronald Honors Special Guest, 8 Year-Old James Fellows on Saturday, September 26th at United Scrap Metal

James Fellows of Hanover Park is not your typical 8 year old. In his short life, he has spent 4-6 months staying at Ronald McDonald House near Advocate Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn with his mom, Kim. James has had three open heart surgeries. Ronald McDonald House enabled the Fellows family to stay together near the hospital during many tests and periods of recovery from surgery.

The only cost to stay at the Ronald McDonald House is a suggested donation of $10 per night. This not only helped the Fellows family financially, but allowed them to remain close to James during his recovery from surgery.

James’s life long illness is not the only thing that sets him apart from the average 8 year old. James is working to collect one million pop tabs to be part of the ‘Thanks a Million Club’ at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana. He is currently over halfway there, with a collection weighing 430lbs, and working toward 798.27lbs.

James enlisted 63 of his classmates from Horizon School and local Girl & Boy Scout Troops to collect the pop tabs with him. This Saturday, September 26, the group will be honored at the Recycle with Ronald event at United Scrap Metal (1545 S. Cicero Ave.), where they will receive the ‘Metal of Honor’ for their support to James and Ronald McDonald House Charities.
