5 Car Burglaries Over Holiday Weekend In Oak Park

OAK PARK, IL — Police in Oak Park reported a spike in car burglaries in the early part of the Christmas holiday weekend. In total, five cars were burglarized between Dec. 22 and Dec. 24, with the suspects taking cash, electronics, and even holiday gifts.

A resident told police that sometime between between 12 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Dec. 22, an unknown offender used a sharp object to the cloth on their 2010 Jeep Wrangler to gain entry to the vehicle. Once inside, the suspect or suspects removed a black and tan duffel bag that contained various articles of clothing.

1100 block of N. Humphrey

Sometime between 10:45 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22 and 7:32 a.m. on Dec. 23, a suspect or suspects got into a vehicle via an unlocked driver's side door. The victim reported a red Dourbey wallet was missing, which contained a driver's license, credit cards, and cash. The estimated loss was $390.

600 block of South Blvd.

Two vehicles were reportedly burglarized in the 600 block of South Blvd. between 3 p.m. on Dec. 23 and 11 p.m. on Dec. 24. In the first burglary, someone got into a resident's car, ransacked the interior, and removed $3.

The second incident took place sometime on Dec. 24, according to a police summary. The victim reported that an HP laptop, Prada glasses, Marc Jacobs glasses, men's Chanel cologne, and a brown wallet containing a social security card, driver's license, and bank cards.

500 block of Harrison

An Aurora resident told police that sometime between 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 23 and 3 p.m. on Dec. 24, someone entered their unsecured vehicle and removed Christmas gifts that included a bath robe, Star Wars slippers, and various bath and body lotions estimated at a total of $95.
