$8K Utility Transmitter Stolen From Truck In Oak Park

OAK PARK, IL — Police in Oak Park are looking for a suspect or suspects who broke into a truck and stole a utility transmitter valued at $8,000. The theft took place in the 900 block of Wenonah Ave. sometime between 11 a.m. on Sunday and 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to police, the suspect(s) used a pry tool to break the lock on the tailgate of the truck, which belongs to an Oak Park resident. The item they stole, a "light blue SPX radio detection utility transmitter," had been temporarily left in the car by a Northbrook resident, police say.

These types of tools are often used to locate wires and cables prior to construction.
