Oak Park restauranter says water, sewer pipe construction near business is biting into his bottom line (cbsnews.com) — A long stretch of Oak Park Avenue is closed for months of water and sewer pipe replacement, and George’s Family Restaurant on South Oak Park Avenue says business is down about 30%. The village has offered grants, free garage parking, and events to help, but the owner is dipping into savings while waiting for construction to finish around Thanksgiving.    

2. Suburban teens set to compete for National High School Musical Theatre Awards (dailyherald.com) — An Oak Park and River Forest High School student, Nolan Maddox, has been named a runner-up in Illinois’ top high school musical theater awards, just one step away from a trip to Broadway’s Jimmy Awards. While winners from Park Ridge and Frankfort will represent the state in New York, Maddox will step in if the lead actor cannot perform, spotlighting Oak Park’s strong theater talent.    

3. Two from Oak Park and River Forest High School net Hemingway Foundation writing awards (chicagotribune.com) — Two Oak Park and River Forest High School students have earned major writing scholarships from the Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park, highlighting local literary talent. Junior Mark Jung of River Forest and senior Iris Henry of Oak Park each received $1,500 and mentorship or college support, with their winning essays to be published in the Foundation’s Hemingway Shorts anthology.    

4. Gary Allan Black (lakelandtimes.com) — Oak Park is noted as the birthplace of Gary Allan Black, who later built his life and business in Lac du Flambeau before passing away at 65. His family remembers a man who loved the Northwoods, fishing, and time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, with private services planned per his wishes.
