Vision Screening at Township Senior Services

Oak Park Township Senior Services, in conjunction with Family Eye Care of Elmwood Park, will offer free vision screenings on Friday, May 18, in the sixth floor offices at 418 S. Oak Park Ave. Participants will be seen by appointment only between 9:30 and 10:30 AM.

Dr. Christopher Frame will be available to perform vision tests, as well as address any other related concerns which might arise.

SHIP Helps Seniors Make Sense of Health Insurance

The Senior health insurance program (SHIP) offers free insurance counseling that assists Medicare recipients with their claims, supplemental insurance, and drug plan, as well as applying for other state and federal benefits.

A SHIP volunteer is available by appointment only to offer assistance. Counseling is conducted at Oak Park Township Senior Services on the sixth floor offices located at 418
S. Oak Park Avenue.

Those seeking guidance are asked to phone (708) 386-8060 to arrange a day and time to be seen.

Shopping Trip Offered By Senior Services Transportation

Oak Park Township Senior Services is sponsoring a shopping trip to the Forest Park Wal-Mart on Tuesday, May 22, at 9:30 AM. The suggested donation
for the trip is $2.00.

All seniors within Oak Park and River Forest age 60 and over are welcome and encouraged to participate. Advance registration is necessary. Call (708) 383-4806 to reserve your seat for this trip or for general information about

Money Management Program Offered

Oak Park Township Senior Services, offers the Money Management Program to residents of Oak Park and River Forest. This program, sponsored by both the Illinois Department on Aging and the American Association of Retired Persons, is designed to assist limited income individuals in managing their finances with the help of a trained volunteer. Services include bill sorting, budgeting, and check writing for payment.

Secretary of State "Super Seniors" Program 

The Illinois Secretary of State’s office in conjunction with Oak Park Township Senior Services, will conduct a Super Seniors Program at the River Forest Community Center, 8020 Madison Ave., River Forest, IL on Friday, May 25 from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM.

Super Seniors is a free, voluntary program that includes Rules of the Road classroom instruction from 9:30, and vision screening to obtain or renew a driver’s license. A
Mobile Driver Services Facility will also be on site to all participants to renew their driver’s license or obtain a state identification card.

Senior Services Lunch Programs

Oak Park Township Senior Services has a Senior Lunch Program located on the 5th floor of 418 S. Oak Park Ave. Lunches are served at 11:00 AM,Monday through Friday, with a suggested contribution of $1.50/meal.

All residents 60 and over are welcome and encouraged to attend. A quarterly lunch menu and activity schedule is sent with the township senior newsletter News & Views.

Transportation to and from the lunch program is available through Senior Services Transportation at 383-4806.

The Township Senior Services Dine Out Program offers seniors the opportunity to enjoy affordable, nutritious lunches or dinners at specified local restaurants. Coupons for this program can be obtained at the Township Senior Lunch Program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00-11:00 AM for a suggested donation of $3.50.
