Armed Robbers Steal Thousands From Food Mart In Oak Park

OAK PARK, IL — Police are looking for help finding two men who robbed a local food mart at gunpoint in Oak Park Thursday just before 8 p.m. The men brandished a "silver long barrel revolver" and wore masks when they robbed the Lake 'n' Austin Food Mart at 422 Austin Blvd., according to police.

Police say the first suspect approached one victim from behind and displayed the revolver while the second suspect approached another victim and demanded that he open the store's cash registers.

The second offender then emptied the cash from the register and a drawer behind the counter, according to police. Police say the suspects then fled northbound on foot.

The total estimated loss was $4,000.

The first suspect is described as a black or Hispanic male with light brown or olive skin and a thin build. He was last seen wearing a gray short-sleeved shirt over a white hooded sweatshirt with long, dark sleeves, light blue jeans, and dark gloves. During the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing a black ski mask over his face, police say.

The second suspect is described as a black male. According to police was last seen wearing a black hooded jacket with a circular logo on the left arm and a yellow rectangle on the back, dark pants, and tan boots, Police say he wore a light-colored surgical mask during the robbery.
