Attempted Carjacking Overnight In Oak Park: Police

A driver fled when two males, ages 15-20, tried to carjack him early Monday morning, according to Oak Park police.

OAK PARK, IL — Two would-be carjackers instead wound up getting in a crash overnight in Oak Park, according to police.

The attempted carjacking occurred just after midnight Monday at Washington Boulevard and Lombard Avenue, police said, when an Oak Park resident was seated in a 2007 Toyota Avalon and two 15- to 20-year-old males approached.

One of the males came toward the Avalon, while the other showed a semiautomatic handgun and ordered the resident out of the car, according to police, who said that instead of exiting the vehicle, the person drove away.

The resident saw a short time later that the males who tried to steal his car had been involved in a crash at Randolph Street and Ridgeland Avenue, police said, adding that the pair had fled from a gray 2020 Chevy Trax reported stolen out of Chicago.
