A Berwyn bar owner is under fire for his “toilet humor” after a woman discovered a two-way mirror in the ladies restroom.

Comedian Tamale Sepp was performing a set Saturday evening at Cigars and Stripes, 6715 W. Ogden Ave., Berwyn. When she went to use the women’s restroom, she noticed a full length mirror on the wall directly across from the toilet.

“For paranoid jerks like myself I get a little confused why that might be there,” Sepp says in a selfie video she made of her discovery during a trip to the restroom. “To check a dress, perhaps, to watch a panty line, maybe.”

Sepp’s investigation led to a janitor’s closet on the other side of the mirror, which offered a full view of the ladies toilet, as well as anyone using it.

“Here’s to being a lady in comedy, am I right,” Sepp says in the video that has garnered 70,000 views on YouTube since it was posted Sunday evening.

When the women’s celebrity, sex and fashion blog Jezebel contacted Cigars and Stripes owner Ronnie Lotz, he reportedly told Jezebel that the two-way mirror has been in place for 15 years.

He also stated that he had no plans to remove it.

“I will burn this f------ place to the ground before I get rid of that mirror. Do you know how much joy that mirror has brought to us,” Lotz told Jezebel.

The Berwyn bar is a well known performance venue for Chicago-area comics. Cigars and Stripes also has a year-round Halloween theme.

Sepp says she was torn at first about posting the video and alerting people to its existence.

“What if people know about this and I’M the jerk for posting?

“I talk about being a woman in comedy. What if people think that comedy is unsafe for women?

“What if people see that I’ve performed burlesque and write me off with slut shaming, stepping over the inherent issues of consent?

“I became angry when I realized that I was more torn apart by the possible social ramifications around ‘causing trouble’ by exposing it than the fact that it existed.”

Lotz could not immediately be reached for comment.

Berwyn Police Chief Jim Ritz said that he’s aware of the video and that Berwyn detectives are speaking to Lotz, who has not been charged with any wrongdoing.

“We’ve been told that patrons are aware of the mirror’s existence,” Ritz said. “If there is any type of violation of people’s personal privacy rights we’re definitely going to pursue it aggressively and criminal charges will be filed.”

“[The owner] leaves the janitor’s closet door unlocked so no on feels uncomfortable. We’re in the process of confirming it,” he added.

Sepp later posted in a Tweet, who is described by her fellow comics as funny, open-minded and cool: “To be clear, I’m not against being a perv. I’m FOR consent.”
