Big Grant for Lindberg Park

The biggest park in Oak Park is about to get better, thanks to newly secured grant money. 

on Monday announced they'll receive $400,000 in matching grant money from the state's Open Space and Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant program.

Back in 2005, the  sought a referendum that raised property taxes in exchange for the promise of more robust park offerings throughout the village.

Park district officials are crediting that effort, which prompted discussions and the creation of site plans for village parks, as a catalyst for landing the grant money. The master plan for Lindberg Park was approved in 2010. 

According to a district news release, the money will be used to create a new park shelter, renovate the tennis courts, develop a looped trail system and playground, overhaul the ballfields, and creation of a dedicated field for soccer and lacrosse. An educational native plant area will also be created.
