Service Resumes After BNSF Train Strikes Pedestrian | UPDATE

"Extensive delays" expected following incident.

Inbound trains have also resumes service after a train on the BNSF line struck a pedestrian near Cicero.

"Inbound trains have been cleared to proceed past Cicero intermittently," Metra said. "Inbound trains will proceed through the coach yard at Cicero, once they clear the scene of the incident they will continue on the main tracks to Chicago Union Station. Trains may be operating approximately 50 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes behind schedule."

Metra said outbound trains have been cleared following a train vs. pedestrian incident near Cicero on the BNSF line.

"Outbound trains will proceed through the coach yard at Cicero, once they clear the scene of the incident they will continue on the main tracks. Trains may be operating approximately 60 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes behind schedule," Metra said in a commuter alert.

A BNSF line train struck a pedestrian near Cicero Friday evening, Metra confirmed.

Train #1275, scheduled to arrive at Fairview Avenue at 6:25 p.m., was stopped after the crash shortly after 6 p.m., Metra said.

Trains in both directions were halted due to the incident, with "extensive delays" expected.
