Boy Scout Volunteers Recognized with Highest Council Award

Boy Scout Volunteers Recognized with Highest Council Award - Four area residents were recognized recently for exceptional service to youth and the community by the Des Plaines Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America.  The Silver Beaver Award presented to the four is the highest recognition that a Boy Scout Council can bestow on its volunteers for their efforts on behalf of youth and Scouting.  It is awarded to those adult Scout leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through their service.

The awards were presented to the four at the Council’s Annual Recognition Banquet, Thursday, February 20, 2014, at Elmcrest Banquets, 7370 W. Grand Ave., Elmwood Park, IL.

“In 2013 the Des Plaines Valley Council had 130 Boy Scouts achieve the coveted rank of Eagle Scout,” said Council President George Krempel.  “Our Scouts also contributed more than 38,000 hours of service to their communities through a variety of projects and programs, including Eagle Scout projects.  This was achieved through the hard work of our Scouts in support of their communities and the dedicated efforts our volunteer leaders in partnership with the Council’s professional staff.”

It was also noted in the ceremonies that the Des Plaines Valley Council had added 15 new Scouting units in 2013, reversing a downward trend of the last several years.  This resulted in the Council being ranked by the Boy Scouts of America as second in the nation in the growth of new units.
