Car Stolen At Gunpoint In Oak Park As Victim Cleans Off Snow

Police say the armed suspect approached when the victim was momentarily distracted.

OAK PARK, IL — An Oak Park resident's car was stolen at gunpoint early Tuesday while he was outside cleaning snow off the running vehicle for his girlfriend. The armed carjacking took place in the 100 block of Pleasant at approximately 8 a.m., according to police.

Police say the armed suspect approached the victim while he bent over to pick up a pair of gloves he had dropped. The victim told police he heard a door slam and saw the suspect displaying a dark handgun. A second suspect then got into the running vehicle and fled westbound before turning north down an alley, according to police.

The first suspect got into a vehicle parked nearby and also fled westbound., police say. The car, a black Hyundai Tucson, also contained a phone, house keys, and personal paperwork. The total loss was valued at $28,000.

Both suspects were described as a black males, standing roughly 5'10" tall with a medium build. They were last seen wearing dark ski masks and dark hooded sweatshirts drawn tightly around their heads.
