3 Charged In Attempted Gas Station Carjacking In Oak Park

Police arrested three men in connection with the incident in the 500 block of S. Austin.

OAK PARK, IL — Oak Park Police have apprehended the third and final suspect of an attempted carjacking that took place at a Shell gas station Saturday. Police arrested Jamel Turner, 21, and Demetrius T. Haymon, 20, of Chicago, Saturday near the intersection of Harrison and Austin, not far from the scene of the crime. Sharod Turner, 23, was taken into custody Sunday morning near his home in Chicago, police say.

Police sought the suspects after a victim told police a man got into her car as she was pumping gas in the 500 block of S. Austin Saturday.

The victim told police she was getting ready to put gas in her car when she noticed that someone had gotten into her car via an unlocked door and was sitting in the driver's seat. Police say the woman confronted the suspect, who indicated that he had a gun.

The suspect and two other men then fled, running northbound on Austin Blvd., according to police. Police were able to apprehend two of the suspects, who were later identified as Jamel Turner and Demetrius Haymon, near the scene.

Sharod Turner was arrested the following day.

All three men are set to appear in bond court Monday.
