Fast Facts: A pair of Top 10 teams in Class 4A meet in the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference tournament final, which is also a rematch of their December meeting won 43-41 by Montini. The Lady Broncos, ranked No. 1 in AP’s 4A poll, posted a 41-point win over Queen of Peace in the quarterfinals and defeated host Mother McAuley in Thursday’s semis. Montini is led by Kerstein (12 PPG), the GCAC Red Player of the Year, and three others – Wallace (109 assists), Bambule (8 PPG) and Jarosinski (9 rebounds per game and 95 blocks) – who were named to the all-conference team. Montini opened the season with 20 straight wins before losing its lone game of the year on Jan. 23 to Class 3A’s top-ranked team, Morgan Park. Trinity comes in ranked No. 10 in 4A having won 17 of 18 since early December. The Blazers picked up an 82-38 victory over St. Francis on Tuesday before knocking off Loyola Academy 59-51 to reach the title game. Trinity Coach Mike Valente said his team has been more consistent in the last month, fueled by young players such as Fallon (8 PPG, 9 RPG) and Lee (10 PPG, 4 steals per game). Senior leadership provides balance, and the keys against Montini. McKenna (14 PPG, 5 assists per game) makes the Blazers go, according to Valente, while Aylward nearly averages a double-double with 17 points and eight boards per game. All four players received All-GCAC Red honors.
