November 20: Recharge and Reflect with Evening Jazz Prayer at Good Shepherd Lutheran, Oak Park
Oak Park’s Good Shepherd Lutheran Church invites the community to “Jazz Prayer—Songs for Saints & Sinners” on Friday, November 20, at 7:10 p.m.
Designed as a time to recharge and reflect after the week’s work, Jazz Prayer combines live spirited jazz music with contemplative readings, poems and prayers. This free, non-denominational music-mediation is offered on the third Friday of each month, September through May.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to release the tension of the work week and revel in soothing, soul-refreshing music and written word,” explained Rev. Kathy Nolte, the congregation’s pastor.
The monthly jazz event showcases the talents of local musicians and is led by Good Shepherd’s music director, Jonathan Oblander. November’s line up for saxophone, vibraphone, trumpet and piano will is built around the theme “Soul Feast.”The feature selection includes Joseph Kosma’s gentle, wistful Autumn Leaves and the Dizzy Gillespie-Kenny Clarke classic, Salt Peanuts.
The evening begins with light refreshments at 7:10, allowing time for social interaction. The jazz and prayer commence at 7:30 p.m.
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is located on the southwest corner of East and Randolph in Oak Park.
