Cool Jazz for a Hot Summer Night with Petra van Nuis

'Cool Jazz for a Hot, Summer Night' features vocalist Petra van Nuis and pianist Dennis Luxion at the Oak Park Arms.

The Monday Night Concert Series features vocalist Petra van Nuis in “Cool Jazz for a Hot, Summer Night” at 7 p.m. Monday, August 20, at the Oak Park Arms, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. She will be accompanied on the piano by Dennis Luxion. The event is free and open to the public.

Petra van Nuis is a Chicago-based jazz vocalist who has been described by Downbeat Magazine as having "… a light, gorgeous, and fairly delicate voice...a gift for melody and plenty of rhythmic confidence."

A Chicagoan since 2003, Van Nuis sings at all the finest jazz venues in town including the Jazz Showcase, the Green Mill, Andy's Jazz Club, Winter's, Fitzgerald's, the City Winery, and the Old Town School of Folk Music.

Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs has presented her groups at the Chicago Cultural Center and Chicago Summer Dance. The Jazz Institute of Chicago has featured Van Nuis’s Recession Seven band at the Chicago Jazz Festival and Jazz City.

She has been interviewed and her music featured on Chicago's WGN for Rick Kogan's "After Hours" show and on WBEZ's "Morning Shift" with Tony Sarabia.

The Monday Night Concert Series, which is free and open to the public, is dedicated to presenting small ensembles, primarily solos, duos and trios.

The Oak Park Arms is a rental retirement community that provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay - a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
