Couple Makes Up Story Of Child Inside Stolen Car: Cops

Police say the couple falsely said a toddler was inside their stolen car in an attempt to get a "higher priority search" for the vehicle.

CICERO, IL — A Cicero couple was arrested Sunday for allegedly telling police their car was stolen with a toddler was inside of it. Police launched an all-points bulletin and additional detectives were brought in before Zada Williams, 21, and Jeremy Ingram, 25, allegedly admitted they falsely reported that the child was in the car.

Police say the pair called 911 Saturday to report that their vehicle had been carjacked in the 5000 block of W. Cermak Road. Williams later called 911 again to say that Ingram's infant nephew was in the backseat of her 2010 Chevy Malibu when it was stolen, according to a news release from Cicero Police spokesperson Ray Hanania.

Police upgrade the search to an all-points bulletin once they learned of the alleged missing child. Hanania says law enforcement contacted Illinois State Police Emergency Network and Chicago Police Crime Prevention Information Center to help locate the reported missing child.

During the investigation, police say they discovered that Ingram's nephew is four years old, not two years old, as Williams had previously told 911 dispatch.

After this inconsistency came to light, Hanania says the couple admitted they falsely reported a child in the car to get a "higher priority search" for their stolen vehicle.

Ingram and Williams have been charged with felony disorderly conduct in connection with the incident and are set to appear in court on March 13.
