D97 Referenda Fact Check: Vote Smart, Not on Trumped-up Threats
April 4 vote; D97 Referenda; Love Our Schools; Insist on Facts, Transparency & Accountability not Trumped-up threats & false financials
In honor of International Fact Check Day (April 2), can we remember that voting with Fear rather than Facts is what got this country President Trump, Sean Spicer, Steve Bannon and KellyAnne Conway? Most Oak Parkers reject their bullying with "alternative facts," identity politics and total lack of civility. How can we follow their playbook when it advances our causes -- our schools and our kids? Can't we agree to reject false facts and fear-based narratives, even (maybe especially) when they're in support of our causes?
I urge every voter in Oak Park to go to the polls tomorrow. Vote your conscience. My conscience tells me it's dangerous to reward people who peddle in fear and falsehoods. Yours might tell you that you always support the schools, no matter what. That's fine. The facts don't have to change your mind, but not having them puts all of us at risk. The facts will allow us to hold our local elected officials to account, no matter the outcome. They need to know that we know they've bent the truth and been misleading with financial data. We will watch; we will hold them accountable; we will demand transparency. Burying our heads in the sand gets us Trump on the local level. Based on the November polls, not many people around here really want that.
Please get informed -- in honor of Fact Check Day -- and just in time for voting tomorrow!
