Daytime Muggings Reported in Oak Park

A pair of similar muggings took place in Oak Park last week, though the outcomes were different in both attacks. 

The first took place last Thursday around 4:50 p.m. when two teens clubbed a Cicero woman in the leg during an apparent robbery attempt.

The incident took place in the 900 block of South Austin Boulevard, where two teens approached the woman, a 38-year-old Cicero resident, and clubbed her in the leg with "a purple metal bar," according to a police report.

The woman fell to the ground but was not seriously injured, police said. The attackers ran away without stealing anything. 

Less than three hours later, a 16-year-old Oak Park teen was beaten and robbed of his iPod while walking along Lake Street, police said

The attack took place around 7 p.m. in the 400 block of Lake Street, according to a police report.

A teenage attacker approached the boy from behind, pushed him to the ground and punched him in the face, police said. The assailant then reached into the victim's jacket and swiped his iPod Nano valued at $160 before running away.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. 

Police said it's unknown if the attacks were connected, but both incidents remain under investigation.
