Dogs Rescued From Oak Forest House Fire
Oak Forest law enforcement and neighbors rescue several caged dogs from a house fire on Laura Lane.
OAK FOREST, IL — Oak Forest Police officers and neighbors were able to rescue several furry friends from a house fire Wednesday night in the 16400 block of Laura Lane. Northern Illinois FireGround reports neighbors and Oak Forest Police officers were first on the scene around 9:40 p.m. last night to help rescue five dogs that were all in their cages. NIFG reports Oak Forest firefighters were also at the scene.
Michael Sparr lives nearby and told NIFG that he was working in his garage when his friend called him, saying there was a fire at his girlfriend's house.
Sparr said he got in his car right away and drove down the way to his friend's girlfriend's house, finding helpers already at the scene and smoke already down to his waist when he went inside the home.

"When I ran through the door I grabbed the first dog cage and then I looked upstairs and I could see flames coming out the door," Sparr told NIFG. "We put our shirts over our face and ran inside there trying to get all the animals out."
Sparr told NIFG there was a cat in the home too, but he doesn't know what happened to it.

But as for those Sparr knew were inside, he can breathe a sigh of relief.
"I'm just glad everyone's all right, everyone walked away from it," Sparr told NIFG.
