Driver Fatally Shoots Himself After Bus Crash Leaves 14 Injured: Police

The driver took out a gun and shot himself after the crash, which left 14 hurt, police say.

OAK PARK, IL: A driver fatally shot himself after a crash into a bus that left 14 injured Friday morning in Oak Park, police said.

According to the Village of Oak Park Police, preliminary information indicates that a vehicle traveling southbound on Harlem Avenue just before 9 a.m. ran through a red light at Lake Street, police said.

There was a pedestrian in the walkway that caused the driver to swerve into the northbound lane and strike other vehicles, including a Pace bus, police said.

The driver then took out a gun, shooting himself in the head; he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said 14 others from the other vehicles were transported to area hospitals for treatment; none are believed to have significant injuries, police said.
