People of faith may celebrate different holidays and worship on different holy days. But on November 20, community members of all faiths will come together to sing, pray and give thanks for our blessings.
Ascension Church will host this year’s Oak Park-River Forest Community of Congregations Interfaith Thanksgiving Service, “One Human Family Thanking God.” Clergy and lay speakers from Jewish, Catholic, Protestant, Buddhist, Muslim and other traditions will deliver prayers and readings.
Rabbi Robin Damsky of West Suburban Temple Har Zion will present the keynote sermon.
The service will feature uplifting musical performances by combined choirs from several congregations. Ascension Music Director David Anderson will conduct the adult choir. The children’s choir will perform under the direction of Unity Temple Music Director Martha Swisher, formerly with Chicago Children’s Choir.
A collection will benefit Oak Park and River Forest’s Holiday Food and Gift Basket Program and the Community of Congregations.
All community members are welcome and warmly encouraged to attend. After the service, Ascension Church will host a reception with refreshments and fellowship.
