Learn the piano, reduce stress during eight-week ‘music making’ session

Offering a stress-free approach for adults learning the piano, Concordia University Chicago’s Preparatory and Community Piano Program is now enrolling students in its Recreational Music Making classes.

“Making Music Together” sessions begin Feb. 1. Cost for eight 60-minute classes is $180 and includes materials. Registration deadline is Jan. 24. To enroll or for more information, contact Concordia Director of Music Programs Craig Sale at (708) 209-3141 or craig.sale@cuchicago.edu.

“Recreational Music Making classes are very different from traditional performance-oriented lessons,” said Sale. “These classes focus on the experience and learning of music through playing the piano, singing, drumming, movement and listening activities.”

These classes are especially beneficial for senior citizens. Recent research has shown the health benefits of these classes are very effective in reducing stress. The low-impact physical activities and opportunity to socialize also benefits students’ wellness.

"Knowing that these classes contribute to a person's wellness is very rewarding. But the biggest reward of all is the enjoyment the students get from them."
