See Oak Park’s HO model railroad club in action during its Spring Open House at the Dole Learning Center. The Oak Park Society of Model Engineers invites rail fans of all ages to participate Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 12:01 p.m. to 5 p.m. at our clubroom in the Lower Level of the Dole Learning Center, 255 Augusta, Oak Park. Free.
We've been building – our scenery is developing on the Illinois level as is our right of way to the Iowa Level. You can even be a model railroad engineer on our “Kids and Friends” layout. Model railroading advice freely given by our members.
OPSME models a railroad running from Chicago west to Iowa. When completed it will have three levels. The first is a staging area with several yards; the second represents Illinois, including an Oak Park scene; and the top level represents our track through Iowa. The club uses Digital Command Control (DCC). We are incorporating current modeling techniques – computer dispatching control, helices, lightweight materials, lighting effects, and more.
