1 Dead, 1 Injured In Shooting At River Forest Red Light

Police say someone shot into the car while it was at a stoplight near North and Harlem.

RIVER FOREST, IL — River Forest Police are looking for suspects of a fatal shooting Saturday that left a Chicago man dead and his female passenger injured. The shooting took place just after 10:30 p.m. as they pair was waiting at a stoplight near the intersection of North and Harlem, police say.

According to police, the man and woman were waiting at a red light in an SUV when a male suspect got out of a silver sedan that had pulled up behind them. The male walked up to the SUV and fired "numerous shots" into it, Chicago Tribune reports.

The silver sedan was last seen fleeing eastbound on North Avenue.

Chicago Tribune reports that River Forest Police Chief James O'Shea said the department believes the fatal shooting was "spillover gang-related violence" that originated in Chicago. Police are not ruling out other motives as the investigation is still in its early stages and West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force has taken over the investigation.
