“I came to graphic design late in my career, but I feel it has made me a better fine artist,” said Coyle. “I like the combination of the two disciplines because graphics has taught me order and certain hard rules, since its main purpose is to communicate, whereas painting feeds my need to push the medium and I can bend the rules a bit. Both of them give me joy.”
“For me, art and design is about persistence, a life study and a discipline,” said Laurel. “It is part of my life. Whether you pursue it a lot or a little at any one time makes no difference. Just return to it again and again.”
