Fire Destroys Two-Story Home In Oak Park

OAK PARK, IL — A blaze engulfed a two-story home in Oak Park Thursday, causing extensive damage and temporarily displacing the residents, fire officials say. Fire crews responded to reports of a residential fire in the 600 block of N. Humphrey early Thursday evening.

Oak Park Fire Chief Thomas Ebsen said in an email that the fire broke out in the ceiling void space between the first and second floors of the two-story frame home. Ebsen said no one was harmed during the blaze.

The home and its contents sustained more than $130,000 in damages, according to preliminary estimates shared by Ebsen.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed to have been accidental.
